CAS FEAR
Television channels, widely watched ones, these days
are bombarding ads urging people to contact their cable operators
for a set top box without which they will not be able to watch
some of their favourite programmes on their favourite channels.
The deadline is approaching closer and many channels have
already agreed on signing a joint declaration that they will
not go free-to-air in the Conditional access system(CAS) regime.
Some of the Free-to-air channels that can be viewed without
a set-top box include: Aaj Tak, Sahara, Sab, MTV and
DD.
Other likely channels that could join the list include Star
News, Zee News, and DD Sports among others. Fear of lower
ad revenues prevails strongly in many Broadcasters.
The fear is dual both for the viewers and the broadcasters.
